Contract is the right answer more often than people think. If the work finishes in six months, a permanent hire leaves you carrying a role you no longer need, and the person you hired working on something they didn’t sign up for. We’d rather tell you that at the start than place someone and watch it unwind.

If a contractor isn’t working out in the first two weeks, we replace them and you don’t pay for the overlap. No argument about whose fault it was.
