Here's what you'll do day-to-day
Backend work on internal platforms used by claims and underwriting teams. The
systems are not glamorous but they are used all day by people who notice
immediately when something is wrong.
- Build and maintain backend services and the APIs other teams depend on
- Work with product and operations people who know the domain better than you will at first
- Improve test coverage and deployment on code that predates you
- Take part in on-call for the services your team owns
Expect a real domain to learn. Insurance has rules that look arbitrary until
you understand why they exist, and the engineers who do well here get curious
about that rather than routing around it.
Requirements
Language matters less than judgement. We are more interested in how you decide
what to build than in which framework you last used.
- Several years building and running backend services in production
- Strong in at least one of Java, C#, Python or Go
- Comfortable with relational databases and designing an API someone else will use
- Experience with CI/CD and deploying your own work
- Willing to carry a pager for what your team ships
- Australian work rights, Sydney based, hybrid
